Biography

Brian is a solo instrumental guitarist based in the St. Louis area.  His original instrumental compositions create a unique blend of musical styles, taking influences from a wide range of folk music with the occasional nod towards jazz and modern classical music.  As a guitarist Brian takes inspiration from acoustic guitarists such as Adrian Legg, Bill Mize, Pierre Bensusan, Michael Hedges and others who specialize in fingerstyle techniques and alternate tunings.

Brian has also worked professionally as a multi-instrumentalist for over 25 years. He earned a B.A. in music performance from Nebraska Wesleyan University focusing on saxophone and flute. During college he also took up the bass. Soon after he began performing and recording on both saxophone and bass with many groups in Nebraska and neighboring states. He has worked with musicians in many styles of music including jazz, rock, pop, soul, funk, blues, country and Latin.  In addition to performing, Brian is also an accomplished writer and arranger and released an album of original music with the horn/funk group Planet Butter. Before moving to Saint Louis he played bass for friend and “The Voice” contestant Josh Hoyer.

Along with satisfying his interest of writing original music for guitar, Brian is also a private music instructor and is currently performing regularly with the Saint Louis group The Yard Darts (bass, flute and vocals).
