Rocco: A Dog in the Life
For my girlfriend’s 40th birthday in 2018, I created this rhythmic collage in four parts featuring our dog, Rocco (with whom we are both obsessed). Yep, you guessed it... too cheap for a proper gift.
I followed Rocco around with a field recorder for a number of days and I let the recorder run during activities like eating, climbing stairs, whining a LOT, and apparently barking at the air. My only rule was that all of the samples must be sounds created by Rocco or sounds that are part of his daily life (preparing his food, putting on his leash, opening our squeaky back door to let him out, etc.) After I collected all of the samples, I looped them into grooves and textures. I did modify a few of the samples with some effects, but most of this was pure dog. I thought of this one day when we were listening to Rocco drink water and I realized that he drank with a pretty cool groove.

Goodbutter
Goodbutter is a home studio solo project where I've taken previous songs that I've written (some of them 20 years old now) and re-recorded them in what I hope is a presentable format. I originally recorded these songs on a old Tascam Portastudio 488. But those old demos only serve as a reference for my song ideas and quite frankly an embarrassment to me now. So, I wanted to revisit some of those songs and freshen up the arrangements a bit. Matt Richardson (Guitar) and Scott "Zip" Zimmerman (Drums) and Randy Miller (Background Vocals) contributed to the song "De-Compressor." Lyrics were mostly written by Chris Fritzen and Holly Karsten.

This is a series of five short pieces written and recorded in April of 2005. The pieces were created to explore a series of five moods associated with five different colors.

Planet Butter
Planet Butter was a fusion funk/pop horn band that I formed with close friend and guitarist Matt Richardson in the early 2000's. I functioned as band leader and wrote and arranged the majority of the material for this project. I did write some lyrics but most were contributed by Chris Fritzen and Holly Karsten (at least the good ones). And yes, this is really the best picture I could find of the original line-up.

Blue Tango
Blue Tango was a harmonica-driven blues-rock group that I played in from the mid-1990's to the early-2000's. Harmonica player and singer-songwriter Brad Hayes wrote most of the material for this band, but here are the handful of songs that I contributed to this project. As far as I know this is the first time that my originals songs were ever recorded on a actual released album. It should be pretty obvious why I started consulting other lyricists for my original tunes for future projects.
